Essential Horse Riding Equipment For Riders

When it comes to horse riding, having the appropriate horse riding equipment is necessary, so as to be comfortable and safe. Saddlery, clothes and tacks are important, if you want to have an enjoyable and memorable experience.

One of the most important parts of the horse riding equipment is the riding hat; it’s not only about style: in fact the hat is what will save you in the case you get kicked off, or fall from the horse. It is something you cannot afford not buying or wearing, because horses might be unpredictable, even when completely tamed and docile. The traditional riding hat is made of velvet and has a hard peak. There are also the skull caps that jockeys wear, although they are usually more colourful that the traditional ones.

The Horse Riding boots are also very important, as they can protect your legs and feet. You can usually find two types of boots available, the mid length and the ankle boots – which are also called jodhpur boots. The long riding boots are usually made of leather and they offer a good ankle protection. Some riders though prefer the jodhpur boots during summer because they are more comfortable and lighter. The disadvantage of the jodhpur boots is that they don’t offer enough protection, thus chaps or gaiters might be needed.

Chaps are used both for extra warmth and protection and they are also available in full length or half length. The half ones are usually combined with the jodhpur boots and they are available in many colors and fabrics.

Reins are also a very important part of the riding equipment. The most common ones are made of leather and they can be combined with lacing, so as to provide a firmer and sturdier grip. Good reins are the ones that do not stretch or crack, that is why some riders prefer the ones made of web.
